Morning Glory

How come a Morning Glory knows when it is morning so it can bloom?

Very simply put ...Its the leaves that sense when it is day time , when the leaves get the 'daytime' signal (i.e: light from the sun) they send a signal to what is called the meristem. The meristem is the 'bud' at the part of the plant which produces flowers and leaves (depending on the signal). The meristem can only respond to the flower signal from the leaves if it is old enough. So sun comes up ...leaves pick up that it is daytime ...the leaves send a signal to the meristem ...the meristem produces a flower which falls off a few hours later.
The proper explanation of this flowering occurence uses a lot of high level plant developmental genetics ...very useful if you care to study it
